Several athletes from Herts Phoenix made the short journey to the home of Cross Country at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath last Saturday to compete in the South of England Cross Country Championships. It was another perfect day for cross country running although the conditions underfoot were very muddy which made the various courses used even more demanding for the athletes.

Last evening I attended the Welwyn & Hatfield Sports Awards, also attended by Ian Miller, who presented one of the awards and the Humphries and Williams Families.  I am pleased to report that Herts Phoenix was very successful.  The pinnacle of success for the Club was the award for Club of the Year but our Women’s Team was also awarded Team of the Year and one of our outstanding young athletes, Richard Humphries, was awarded School Pupil of the Year.

History was made as the Lea Valley Schools held its first ever Indoor District Championships thanks to being able to use the new all purpose built High Performance Centre at Picketts Lock.  The event was made possible with the support of Herts Phoenix AC and sponsorship from the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
