On a beautiful sunny day with a brisk breeze some 400 athletes from most of the clubs in Hertfordshire took part in the Herts County Cross Country Championships last Sunday. All the athletes from Herts Phoenix performed very well and their efforts were rewarded with two individual winners - Samuel Jones in the under 11 boys, Edward Shepherd under 15 boys who, with Mary Gough 3rd in the Under 13 Girls race, led their respective teams to the Gold Medal positions.  Last Saturday evening saw the annual UK Athletics Awards ceremony take place at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham and it turned out to be an outstanding evening for the Club. Around three hundred people from the nine English Regions, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland enjoyed the event comprising a champagne reception, dinner followed by an entertaining speech from Geoff Miller (ex England cricketer and now selector) and finally the Awards ceremony hosted by Katharine Merry and presented by Darren Campbell and David Hemery. Last Saturday saw the latest round of the the London City Runner Metropolitan League take place at Wormwood Scrubs. This was the third of the five race series and a full set of reults is now available on this web site. Just take a look in the Results section of the main menu on the left of your screen. The last two races take place in the New Year on 19th January and 9th February.

 Getting youngsters to warm-up, stretch, run, jump and throw pays dividends as Herts Phoenix coaches proved once again at the weekend when they took 51 under 11 and under 13 boys and girls to compete in the Norwich Union Fun In Athletics Regional Festival at the University of East Anglia, Norwich last Saturday. The 51 were divided into 4 teams of boys and girls: Herts Phoenix ‘A’ and Herts Pegasus ‘B’. Click here for results. |

Near freezing temperatures greeted almost 300 runners on Wednesday evening at the first race in this year's Fairlands Valley Spartans Stevenage Midweek 5k Series. This race also doubled up as the Hertfordshire Championships. Ten of the Club's athletes turned out, several came away with personal bests, some with County honours and the Mens team came 3rd overall. A full set of results is now available on this web site. |
