With the prospect of a home match and decent weather on Sunday, we had high hopes for this second NJAL meeting of the year. And the team did not disappoint, finishing second of the eight competing teams. However, whilst the glorious sunshine made for a pleasant day, it did turn out to be tough conditions for the distance runners. |

The first day of the Essex County Championships was held at Thurrock on Bank Holiday Monday in very mixed weather conditions. Several Herts Phoenix athletes who live in Essex were there representing their club.

Most of our teams are suffering from a lack of support. I therefore urge all athletes to compete for the Club and for all parents and/or coaches to encourage and help our athletes to compete for the Club. There is a choice of competitions for our younger athletes and, having gained promotion in both the Southern Men’s League and UK Women’s League, both of these leagues should provide a good standard of competition for our older members.

The re-organised AGM was held last evening, Wednesday 12 May. Thanks to the support of members who attended, some for the second time, we had a quorum and so were able to conclude the formal business. There was also some lively discussion on topics of importance to the Club. |

The outdoor season got underway with the Hertfordshire County Championships this Sunday at Woodside Stadium, Watford. The weather was dry but cold and blustery making for difficult conditions for many of the competitors – especially the sprinters with a headwind in the home straight. However, it was also a chance to win medals and set down an early marker for future performances over the summer and many of the Herts Phoenix athletes did just that. |
