Five young athletes and two senior men from Herts Phoenix Athletic Club travelled to Roundhay Park, Leeds on Saturday to compete in the English National Cross Country Championships.

Herts Phoenix under 13 Girls’ Team won their final race in this year’s Metropolitan Cross Country League series making it 4 wins out of 4 (one match was cancelled due to the snow) and thus retained the overall League title. Lizzie Parry finished in second place and was well supported by her team mates.  Click here for results.

The senior World indoor athletics trials and UK national championships took place last weekend at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield and four of Herts Phoenix rising stars, three U20 athletes and one U23, were invited to take part.

The Hertfordshire Schools Cross Country Championships was held at Verulamium Park, St Albans on Saturday 6th February 2010.  More than 40 athletes from Herts Phoenix Athletic Club represented their schools with 10 of them winning automatic selection to run for the County in the English Schools Championships at Seaton Park, Manchester on Saturday 20th March. Taking gold were Lizzie Bird and Liam Dee. Silver went to Emily Ruane, Edward Shepherd and Joshua Jewson and Mary Gough won a bronze.
