Two of Herts Phoenix most successful and dependable athletes signed off from their involvement with the English Schools Championships this weekend by winning their events and helping Hertfordshire take the relay gold medal into the bargain.

The South East Schools Regional Combined Events championships took place at Kingston on the weekend of 27th-28th June and saw 5 Herts Phoenix athletes competing for Hertfordshire.

Herts Phoenix Senior women enjoyed a good result in their second match of 3 in their 2009 UK Women’s league division 4 campaign on Sunday 5th July at Coventry. Despite a few late withdrawals we were still able to field a strong team and finished 2nd out of 8 in the match.

The eastern counties championships took place at a warm and sunny Cambridge University track on Sunday 5th July with a gentle breeze favouring the sprinters down the home straight.

A slightly depleted womens team had an early start on Saturday 27th June as they made the long journey down to Worthing to compete in the 3rd Southern Womens match.  With a team of just 10 athletes they done outstandingly to battle their way to a second place missing out on the win by only 3 points.
