Herts Phoenix’s Senior Women travelled all the way down to Swansea in South Wales for its first UK Women’s League Match in Division 3 after becoming Division 4 Champions last year. Results now available on this web site.
The Team didn’t really know what to expect from the higher division competition but as it turned out they dealt with it extremely capably, finishing just 13 points off the runners-up spot behind the Home Team. In fact the Team finished fifth showing how close the end result was. In addition, the 4 x 400m squad set a new Club record with a blistering time of 3:51.52, all but one going under 60 seconds and that one only just missing the one minute barrier. There was also a new personal best and Club Record coming from Peta Lundgren (Javelin), with 43.01m and Nikki Silva (800m) recording 2:12.01 and Hayley Wills (200m) 25.66 seconds. Hayley Wills was involved in three of the victories, 400m, 200m and the 4 x 400m whilst Peta Lundgren’s record breaking Javelin Throw also recorded a victory. Most of the Team’s results reflected its overall finishing position, but it’s the last event of the day that always seems to be the most exciting with the 4 x 400m Relay and this was no different. Christina Silva gave the squad a good start (59.1) and Emma Kavanagh supported that (60.1), but the last two runners of Nikki Silva (57.1) and Hayley Wills (54.5) produced the killer blows to bring the Squad home in a new Club Record beating the old mark by over 4 seconds.
