Herts Phoenix runners acquitted themselves very well over a 3000m undulating course around the lakes in Fairlands Valley, Stevenage last week.

The Club fielded a Women’s team for the first time in several years and managed to claim fifth place, with a cumulative time of 35.56, out of the 53 that completed the race. Individual times were Natasha Taylor 11 minutes 32 seconds with Laura Whitehead and Julie Simmons both recording 12.12.

The Club’s Senior Men’s team with Mike Tarpey 9.09, Matt Carlisle 9.04, Lee Reynolds 9.02, Andrew Benson 9.34 and Chris Saville 9.41 with a combined time of 46.30 claimed the overall winning team prize as well as collecting Gold medals in winning the Hertfordshire County Championships.

The Club’s Junior Men’s team finished in 7th place overall with John Kinahan (U20) 10.16, David Wilson (U17) 10.30, Vasudev Zaver (U15) 10.03, Richard Tarpey (U23) 10.03 and Edward Shepherd (U15) 9.50 in 50 minutes 42 seconds.

 

The Club’s Veteran Men’s Team won the Bronze medals for third place in the County Veterans Championships and finished 29th out of the 58 competing teams that finished this popular event.  The team members who recorded a time of 56.33 were Peter Williams 11.15, Richard Melvern 11.09, Peter Fitzpatrick 11.26, Robin Baynham 11.34 and Joe Avery 11.09.

The second Veteran Men’s team finished in 54th place with an overall time of 68.07, Dave Beasley 16.09, Mike Dixon 13.31, Richard Bloom 12.09, Stuart Mann 11.50 and John Steed 14.28.

Jim Davis 13.10 and Joe Clare 16.34 also ran as an incomplete team and the fastest Individuals in the race were Lee Reynolds 1st, Matt Carlisle =2nd and Mike Tarpey 5th.
