The young athletes of Herts Phoenix finished a creditable third in their final match and will now have to wait until all the results are calculated to see if they have qualified for either of the A or B finals in September.
With a team hit by holidays and the U17 Inter-counties match, leaving them without one U17 girl, the young athletes performed magnificently to gain as many points as possible. In the U13 girls the absence of the Hadley twins and Natalie Allen gave opportunities to others and the highlights were wins in both A and B string races for Megan Breen and Lizzie Parry in the 800m ( 2.42.9s and 2.51.3s) and Mary Gough and Laura Coffey in the 1500m (5.23.7s and 5.41.1s). All these girls also picked up good points in their other events of Shot put for Megan and Mary (both 4th) and Long jump and Discus for Lizzy (3rd and 2nd places). Megan also took 4th in the 200m (32.3s) and Nicole Chaytor and Annabel Jones took 4th and 3rd in the 100m A and B respectively with 16.1s and 15.7s.
