A huge turnout of Herts Phoenix Athletes on Sunday for the Hertfordshire Team saw the County claim runners up spot in all of the trophy events in the Hibbard Trophy series held at Ipswich on Sunday, for teams from the six Eastern Counties.
Eight of the Herts Phoenix’s Women’s Team took on 17 events in the Betamax Trophy with Laura Jones and Natalie Farman competing in four events each, as well as sharing a role in the 4 x 100m. For Laura, the 400mHurdles (3rd), 100m (3rd), Shot Putt (3rd) and Javelin (4th), and Natalie Long Jump (5th) 100mHurdles (3rd) High Jump (5th) and Javelin (3rd) – both using their Heptathlon training to support the County Team and earning it valuable points. Emily Stevens taking on three events as well as sharing a role in the 4 x 100m took on the 400mHurdles (1st), 100mHurdles (3rd) and 200m (4th), Deborah Willis in the 400m (4th) and 4 x 400m Relay, sprinter Laura Wake in the 100m (2nd) – the first one she has run this season and 200m (2nd) and 4 x 400m Relay, Eve Miller in the Hammer (5th) and two good results from the distance athletes, Charlotte Davies in the 1500m (3rd) and Natasha Taylor in the 3000m (2nd). Team Results: 1st Essex 239 points 2nd Herts 203.5 points 3rd Beds 194.5 points In the Hibbard Trophy for Senior Men, Matthew Hamilton made the break through he had been waiting for all summer in his 400m race, going sub-50 seconds for the first time and caliming a third place for his new pb. Nathan Wake competing in his unfamiliar role in the 800m also recorded a pb with 1:54.75 to claim a second place, whilst Michael Tarpey scored a first in the 5000m, and Alec Wing a fifth place in the 400mHurdles. 1st Essex 255 points 2nd Herts 217 points 3rd Norfolk 216 points In the Under 17 Mens event the Bettahouse Trophy, Herts Phoenix were well represented, and saw a number of the Club’s promising young men secure good results for the County with Aaron Armstrong 200m (4th), Simon Wake 200m (3rd), Richard Sakey 100mHurdles (2nd), David Sissons 100mHurdles (2nd), Tom Barfoot 800m (1st), Edward Shepherd 3000m (3rd) and Tim Warner Pole Vault (1st).
