Monday, 12 October 2009
There was an excellent turnout of athletes from Herts Phoenix AC for the first of this season’s Metropolitan League Cross Country matches held on Saturday 10th October in sunny, warm conditions over the very hilly and testing courses in the woods adjacent to Ruislip Lido. A full set of results is in the "Results" section of the web site.
In the first race of the afternoon Jake Barraclough ran very well to win the under 13 boys’ race  by 18 seconds and supported by twins Sam and Jamie Jones came second in the Team race. The under 13 girls’ team continued from where they left off last season by winning their Team race with Lizzie Parry running strongly to finish in second place and being well supported by Megan Breen, Ellie Baker, Alicia and Isabel Found and Emily Hore who was making her cross country debut. The under 17 men all ran very well to secure 4th place in their Team race with their under 15 age group colleagues packing well to bring the B Team home in 10th place out of the 17 teams contesting this event. Ella Fuller performed well to finish second in the u17 womens race and with her colleagues also running well finished in 5th place in the Team event. Fresh from his excellent win at the Standalone Farm 10k road race last weekend the in-form Neilson Hall ran away from the field to come home in first place nearly 30 seconds in front of the second placed runner in the Senior Men’s race, he was well supported by Matt Carlisle 19th, Bryn Reynolds 29th, Steve Prosser 38th, Lee Reynolds 39th and Tom Gough (U20) 98th and their team mates to finish in 8th place in the Team Event. Norman Morrison (V55) and Richard Melvern (V60) won their respective Age-group categories and brought the Veteran’s Team home in 9th place out of the 27 teams contesting the race.
