More awards for Herts Phoenix Athletic Club PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 19 February 2010

Herts Phoenix were named 'Club of the year' at the prestigious Welwyn Hatfield District Annual Sports Awards at the glittering ceremony on Thursday 11th February.  This is the third year in the last four, since the awards were introduced, that the club has left with a trophy.

This year it was for 'Club of the Year' and in recognition of the success we have had in transferring potential into achievements.  Nowhere is this more visible than the success of our various teams and also the tremendous individual success that many of our athletes achieve at major championships.

As can be seen below we had individual international honours, medal winning performances and promotions for our teams.  All of this was rewarded by the judges who once again recognised the outstanding contribution we make to sport in Welwyn Hatfield and due to our two base structure Hertford and Ware also.

Jodie Williams        World Youth 100m and 200m Champion.
Nathan Wake         World Youth Championships 4th place.  European Junior Championships 4x400m Gold medal.
Stephanie Gaynor GB Junior selection - Loughborough International and European
Junior Championships.  England Athletics selection - Celtic indoor cup.
Laura Wake           GB Junior selection European Junior Championships.
England Athletics selection - Celtic indoor cup.

These are all athletes who were recruited locally and who have initially developed within the club structure.

Additionally one of our senior athletes, katherine Harle, represented Scotland in the International Falkirk Cup meeting, 2009.
