The rising stars of Herts Phoenix AC travelled the short distance to Copthall Stadium last weekend in hope more than expectation, but a fantastic performance by the whole team, who turned out in force for this important occasion, saw them comfortably take second place and win promotion to the Southern Premier Division of the National Junior League for next season. On a day which was cool and blustery but mainly sunny, the athletes returned some excellent performances at the end of a long season against some very strong teams from all over the south of the country.

Near perfect conditions prevailed at Milton Keynes on Saturday for the fourth Southern Athletics League match of the season.  This was a very tough top of the table match where we were lying fourth in the table and came up against two of the teams above us, Southampton and Milton Keynes.  This was reflected in the final match points score with Southampton winning with 217.5 points, Milton Keynes with 198.5 just ahead of Herts Phoenix on 193 points with Ealing, Southall & Middlesex, the fourth Club in the match scoring 91 points.
