The senior women and U15 girls teams had their first match of the season on Sunday 7th April when eight Clubs contested the Alpha trophy at Lee Valley athletics Centre.
Both seniors & U15s had complete teams covering all events in both A & B strings which is an excellent start to the year for the club.
All the athletes worked well together to cover the events where athletes had to pull out at short notice due to injury which gained the club valuable points in the competition.
Individuals in the senior section had some good early season results with wins for Eloise Meakins (U23) in the Javelin A string and Laura Armorgie (U17) and Gemma Armorgie (U20) in the high jump A & B Strings. Daizy Lee (U17) secured 2nd place in the 200m A race and newcomer to the club Eleanor Moss (U17) gained third place in the B string Javelin. The senior relay team of Natalie Allen, Ellie Bandy, Gemma Armorgie & Daizy Lee also claimed 3rd place. The seniors finished the day in 4th just 8 points behind the club in 2nd place.

The Under 15 Girls represented us well throughout with solid performances. Despite strong competition from the other teams, we achieved very creditable 3rd places in Long Jump, 800m & 1500m events, and attained a final day placing of 6th place, a mere 13 points behind the club in 2nd place. Special thanks to all those athletes who stepped out of their comfort zones and valiantly competed in Shot, Javelin & 1500m events to help us get extra points. The full team was: Megan Fielding, Pippa Beauchamp, Louise Reilly,Georgia McKenzie, Alice Semark, Hannah Booth, Zoe Benton, Erin Breen, Lily Jones & Imogen Walker. Well done girls.
The runaway winners of the overall Trophy competition were Blackheath and Bromley, and the Herts Phoenix combined teams achieved an overall 5th place, successfully retaining our position in the Alpha Trophy competition. |
