UKWAL Wigan- PROMOTED!
A depleted but enthusiastic team of senior & U20 athletes made the long journey to Wigan for the final UK Women’s Athletic League match on the weekend of 8th/9th August.
Herts Phoenix, Liverpool and Herne Hill were all in with a chance of the two promotion slots going into this match which was always going to be tight and tense.
All three teams ended the day on 21 League points which meant the final league positions came down to match points. Herts Phoenix got the second promotion place by only 8 points over the whole season from Herne Hill. This shows how very important every single performance throughout the whole year is
****So HERTS PHOENIX ARE PROMOTED TO DIVISION 2 FOR NEXT SEASON.****
Both Emma & Sue would like to thank all athletes who competed in any of the three matches. You all did an excellent job and without your efforts we would not have gained promotion. Absolutely every performance counts. From this weekend we would like to add a special thank you to those athletes who did events way out of their comfort zones and often at the expense of their own events so we had every event covered apart from pole vault but we are working on that for next year !!. A couple even found new events they now want to develop for next season.
We had a brilliant weekend.
Also we would like to thank the officials who travelled the miles for us over the season as they too gained very valuable points.
We hope all injured athletes will be back fitter and stronger next year so we can work our way up the next division. We will get dates to you for these matches as soon as we get them so you can consider them when booking holidays ! The key is to have every event covered and if it can be by a specialist in that event so much the better.
"The whole club, especially all the UKWAL athletes would like to say a massive thank you for the time and dedication Emma and Sue have both put in over the course of the season to make this happen. It is not an easy task to chase up on all of us athletes, but it has been worth it!"
