There were some excellent medal winning performances by Herts Phoenix AC athletes at the South of England Under 17 and Under 15 Championships held at the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford on 15th and 16th August.
In the under 17 Championships Zoe Benton won her 300m Hurdles heat in 45.06 seconds before going on to win the final in 44.90 seconds and Sophie Segun qualified for the 200 metres final after coming third in her heat in 26.68 seconds, to win the silver medal in 25.35 seconds.
Eden Davis won his 100 metre heat in 11.02 seconds and then in the final claimed second place to win a silver medal in 10.94 seconds. Robert Green won his heat of the 400m Hurdles in 57.12 seconds before going on to set a new personal best time of 55.34 seconds to win the bronze medal, which puts him in 3rd place in the UK rankings behind the two men who beat him in the final, who also set new personal best times. Beck Grover won his heat of the 800 metres in 2:01.66 before improving his personal best time by almost 2 seconds to claim third place and the bronze medal in the final with a time of 1:56.76 seconds.
In the under 15 Championships Shaka Egbo claimed a silver medal in the High Jump competition for second equal place with a clearance of 1.50 metres and Christa Hetherington came second in her heat of the 75m Hurdles in 11.64 seconds before finishing in fifth place in the final in 11.85 seconds
Two of the Club’s under 13 athletes had a busy weekend each contesting three events:
Lauren Simpson - 100 metres Round 1 – 7th in 14.27 seconds, 200 metres Round 1 – 6th in 28.81 seconds and Long Jump 2nd with a leap of 4.56 metres
Joshua Horleston – 100 metres 4th in 13.22 seconds, 200 metres 4th in 27.38 seconds and Long Jump 2nd jumping 4.75 metres
