Herts Phoenix was well represented at the England Athletics Age Group Indoor Championships, with PBs, SBs and even a gold medal!
The U20 men put in a solid performance with Eden Davis running 23.17 secs to come 3rd in his 200m heat, unfortunately missing out on a place in the semi final. Luke Smith however did earn a place in the 200m semi final by running 22.72 secs in his heat, he placed 3rd in his semi final but unfortunately it wasn't quite enough for the final. Robert Green ran a SB in the 400m of 52.68 secs coming 5th, whilst Beck Grover also ran a SB placing 4th in his heat with 1:56.84.
Phoenix had a whole squad turn up for the U20 women 400m; Zoe Benton ran a PB of 59.26 secs to place 4th in her heat, Ellie Bandy ran a SB of 58.56 secs to come 2nd and Emily Hack came 4th in her heat with 58.61 secs. Unfortunately none progressed to the final, but the 4x400m squad is looking very strong for the outdoor season!
In the U17 women, Sophie Julian progressed to her 60m hurdles semifinal by running 9.59 secs in her heat. In the semi final she came 6th with 9.63 secs. Louise Reilly who splits her training between high jump and 300m hurdles, focused on the high jump this weekend coming 6th in the final with 1.60m.
The stars of the day can be found in the young talent in the club. U15 Christa Hetherington progressed to the 60m hurdles final after winning her heat and semi. She placed 5th in the final with a time of 9.30 secs. And last but by no means least, Shaka Egbo took the U15 high jump by storm jumping a PB of 1.67m to win the National title and the gold medal.
Huge well done to all our competitors!
