The Herts Phoenix Women’s team had a very good result at their first UK Women’s Athletic League match of the year held at a very sunny and hot Chelmsford on Sunday.
Having gained promotion at the end of last year the competition was always going to be tough for our young team, but the athletes did an amazing job to finish in 4th place out of 8, just 1.5 points behind third.
Teams came from as far north as Glasgow and as far South as Southampton for this high quality match.
All the athletes competed at a high level to gain valuable points for the club. We also had 4 higher claim athletes from nearby clubs to help our home grown talent.
Wins at these matches are few due to the extremely high standard of many athletes competing but all our athletes competed extremely well with many being pushed on to achieve PBs & SBs.
There were wins for Steph Williams in the 800m B string , Laura Armorgie in the high jump A string, Lauren Rule in the A string 400m & Joceline Monteiro in the 800m A string.
PBs were achieved by Emily Hack 200m, Charlotte Gaynor 3000m, Sally Cowler 100m hurdles, Aby Griffiths 400h, Lizzie Doyle 400h & 2000m steeplechase, Kara Peck long jump, Hannah Lloyd shot and Joceleine Monteiro in the 1500m.
We would also like to thank our officials – Stuart Broadhead, Richard Bloom, Gary Cowler and Stuart Meakins who did a great job and got us maximum officials points.
A brilliant start to the season for this team.
