Herts Phoenix athletes had a very successful weekend at Lea Valley. There were 5 medals and ALL our athletes made the final in their respective events, which shows the strength in our U20 and Senior squads.
Amongst the medals were Eden Davis with a bronze in the U20 100m with a time of 10.97 secs and a silver in the 200m in 22.03 secs. It's great to see him getting back into form after starting the season with injuries. Luke Smith also made the final of U20 200m coming a fine 5th place with 22.38secs. Our second medallist in the mens was Nathan Burke, in his first ever big championships, jumped a PB of 13.49m to get silver in the triple jump. Our final male was Rob Green who ran a strong race in the 400m hurdles running 56.42 secs to get 4th, just missing out on a medal.
Representing the women was Sophie Segun in the U20 200m who ran 24.44 secs to qualify for the final, before coming a solid 6th in the final itself. Ellie Bandy ran 58.90 secs in the U20 400m to qualify for the final, however did not start the race sadly. In the U20 400m hurdles Zoe Benton came 4th in 66.63 secs, whilst Sally Cowler jumped 10.89m in the U20 triple jump to get 5th. Erin Breen was so close to a medal, but jumped 3.00m in the U20 pole vault to get another 4th. One of our senior athletes Stephanie Williams came 6th in 61.79 secs in the 400m hurdles.
Our other senior at the champs was Eloise Meakins in the javelin, who threw 47.37m to get the gold and her first Southern Champs title. Our other gold medallist was Laura Armorgie who took the U20 high jump title with a height of 1.70m. This also earned her an England vest for the Welsh International later on this season, so a doubly special day for her.
A great day for the individual athletes and an equally great day for Herts Phoenix, as we show our strength and depth on a big stage. Well done all!
