AAA Tom Pink Relays – Sunday 23rd October 2016.

Herts Phoenix’s young athletes took on teams from Vale of Aylesbury AC, Lee Valley Academy, Horsham Blue Stars, Woodford Green & Essex Ladies, Brighton & Hove City and Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets at the annual Tom Pink Relays & Field Events at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday 23 October. The events with a Scottish flavour included tossing the caber, weight for distance, weight for height and highland steps.

 

The Under 11 boys stormed to victory in the both the ‘Keeping up with Paula’ Relay (Casey Hawtin, Luke Canny, Fergus Grey, Ashton Kirby and Joshua White) and ‘Over and Under’ Relays (Josh White, Fergus Grey, Ashton Kirby and Casey Hawtin). In the field medals were won in 5 out of the 6 events. There were golds in the Long Jump (Joshua White), Triple Jump (Luke Canny), silver in the Long Jump (Ollie May) and Weight for Distance (Tom Bishop) and bronze medals in the Highland Steps and Javelin (Casey Hawtin). The other members of the team were Hayden Dixon, Ellis Day, Toyosi Siwoku, Charlie Ciuffa, Toby Cracknell, Bodhi Bywater Reggie Hopson and Ben Thorburn. Manager – Alister Parry.

 

The Under 11 girls achieved a bronze medal in the ‘Keeping up with Paula’ race against very tough competition (Trinity Meikle, Sophie Chen, Amelia Gittens, Zoe Demetriou and D’arcy Wright). The team narrowly missed out on a medal in the ‘Over and Under’ Relay (Sophie Chen, Abigail Jakes, Amelia Gittens and Sienna Willicombe). In the field, medals were won in 5 out of the 6 events. There were golds in the Long Jump (Ena Olivier), Highland Steps (Trinity Meikle), Silver medals included Javelin (Zoe Demetriou) and ‘Tossing the Caber’ (D’arcy Wright) and bronze medals for the Highland Steps (Zoe Demetriou) and Triple Jump (Ena Olivier). Other members of the team were Daniele Cerniauskaite, Izzy Butt, Amelie Frizelle, Daisy Murdoch, Isabella Stewart, Evie Wake and Grace Wake. Manager – Kirsty Aitken.

 

The U13 boys mirrored the achievements of their U11 counterparts winning both their relays.  The gold-winning teams were ‘Chasing Mo’ (Miles Douglas, Joe Robinson, Flynn Prescence, Ben Cracknell, Callum Stern) and 3 x 2.5 Lap (William Hughes, Sam Scott , Vinny Clarke).  In the field, there were medals in 4 of the 6 events. There were golds in the Highland Steps (Joe Robinson), Weight for Distance (Sam Scott) and Weight for Height (Joe Robinson), silvers in the Highland Steps (Vinny Clarke), Long Jump (Sam Scott) and Weight for Distance (Miles Douglas) and bronze in Weight for Height (Erike Siwoku). .

 

The U13 Girls team was depleted through other commitments and injuries. In the relays they were up against strong opposition and despite their efforts missed out in the medals.  There was however success in the field for Kathryn Rollins who took gold in the Weight for Height and Madeleine Stewart who was the silver medallist in the Highland Steps.  The other members of the team were Megan Reid, Anna Kasoulis, Lauren Byrne and Emily Rollins.
