Hertfordshire County Cross Country Championships 2017

2017 saw the return of the Hertfordshire Cross Country Championships to Hertford Heath with the courses set out within the grounds of Haileybury College last Sunday 8th January by Herts Phoenix AC whose turn it was to host this event.

The host club's endurance athletes performed very well in conditions that were perfect for cross country, the weather was quite mild with occasional sunshine but following the recent rain conditions underfoot were muddy and very demanding especially in the uphill and downhill areas of the courses through the woods.

Louise Grenfell ran very well to win the under 11 girls race and together with her team mates Maya Delyfer and Amy Summers won second place in the team race. Daniel Gill won the bronze medal for third place in the Under 13 boys' race and was well supported by Ethan Primett 6th and Max Batty 8th to win the Team Gold medal. The under 15 boys' team of Brett Rushman 6th, Bryce Breen 7th and Callum Blair-Park 17th finished in second place to win the silver medal in their race. Emily Ruane had an excellent race to finish in fourth place overall out of the 78 finishers who competed in the Senior Women's race. After a strong performance last year's Champion John Eves had to be content with a fine second place to collect the silver medal in the Senior Men's race, he was followed by Peter Townsend in a very commendable 7th place out of the 132 finishers.
