European U20 Champs and England Athletics Senior Champs Report
EUROPEAN UNDER 20 CHAMPIONSHIPS, GROSSETO, ITA, 20-23 JULY
HANNAH WILLIAMS and EDEN DAVIS were part of the GB team taking part in the 24th European Under 20 Champs held in the Tuscan city of Grosseto. Hannah, having previously represented GB at World Youth (U18) Champs, Cali,COL; England at Commonwealth Youth Games, Apia, SAM; and GB at World Under 20 Champs,Bydgoszcz,POL, this time returned with 2 bronze medals.
In the individual 400m Hannah began her campaign with a 2nd heat placing in a season’s best of 53.08. The following day’s semi-final saw Hannah again placing 2nd in 53.61 to qualify for the final. In the next day’s final Hannah set off strongly and was leading into the home straight before being passed by Anastasiya Bryzhina (UKR) and Andrea Miklos (ROU) coming home in bronze medal position. Her reward was a new PB of 52.55 to move to number 6 on the UK U20 all-time list. A second bronze medal was secured on the last day of the champs when Hannah teamed up with Mair Edwards, Maya Bruney and Ella Barrett to claim 3rd in the 4x400m relay behind Ukraine and Germany.
Eden, fresh from his victories in the Maccabiah Games was selected as part of the GB 4x100m squad and in the heats Eden anchored the team to victory to qualify for the final later that day in 39.84. The team of Dom Ashwell, Oliver Bromby, Kristian Jones and Eden improved to 39.67 in the final, but lost out on 3rd place by 8 hundredths behind Germany, Italy and Spain.
