Results Round-Up - July 2017

BRITISH CHAMPS & TEAM TRIALS, BIRMINGHAM, 1-2 JULY

At the British Champs in Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, which also doubled as the GB trials for the World Championships, 6 club members were in action.


LAUREN THOMPSON was in top form in the 400m Hurdles and after a PB of 58.71 to place 2 nd in her heat improved to 58.62 for 7 th position in the final.


JODIE WILLIAMS was also a finalist, placing 5 th in the 200m with a season’s best of 23.41.


Younger sister HANNAH WILLIAMS was 5 th in her 400m heat clocking 55.0 seconds.


Also in PB form was ALEX HILL who returned a time of 61.26 in the heats of the 400m Hurdles.


In field event action ELOISE MEAKINS threw 44.73m for 8 th place in the javelin, while in the high jump

LAURA ARMORGIE jumped 1.66m.

BAUHAUS JUNIOR GALA, MANNHEIM, GER, 1 JULY

EDEN DAVIS gained his first GB representative vest as part of a selected events team in this annual International Invitation Meeting for Under 20 athletes. Eden was selected as a result of finishing 4 th(3rd GB eligible) in June’s England Athletics Champs 100m in Bedford - PB of 10.46. In Germany Eden was not far off his best with a time of 10.53.

ENGLISH SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS, BIRMINGHAM, 7-8 JULY

Seven of Herts Phoenix’s young athletes were in action representing Hertfordshire Schools, and 2 of them gained podium places !


In the Under 20 Boys discus SAM WOODLEY threw 47.99m for 2 nd place and silver medal, losing out by just 75 centimetres to a Kent athlete, who Sam had previously defeated to win the Southern Champs.


BRYCE BREEN took the bronze medal in the Junior Boys pole vault, substantially improving his personal best to 3.45m. Also in PB form was Bryce’s sister ERIN BREEN who upped her best ever to 3.40m in Senior Girls pole vault for 10th place.


SOPHIE SEGUN was a finalist in the Senior Girls 200m placing 8th with 25.55 secs, having qualified with a heat time of 24.92.


In the Inter Girls high jump SHAKA EGBO recorder a height of 1.65m for =7th place.


Under 15 Boy JOSH HORLESTON ran in the heats of the 100m registering 11.98 secs, while in the Senior Boys 800m BECK GROVER ran 1:57.77 in his heat.

MACCABIAH GAMES, JERUSALEM, ISR, 7-18 JULY

The Maccabiah Games, the quadrennial multi-sport Games known as the Jewish Olympics were held in Jerusalem from 7th to 18th July. A large British contingent, representing Maccabi GB including Herts Phoenix member EDEN DAVIS took part. Eden was competing in the ‘Junior’ 100m and 200m and excelled by taking Gold medals in each event from an International line-up of competitors.
