Two of Herts Phoenix talented endurance athletes produced excellent results at the South of England Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Held in the picturesque surroundings of Stanmer Park, Brighton the courses set out over the very muddy and hilly parkland really tested the endurance and stamina of the several hundred athletes who competed in these regional Championships.
In the under 20 men's race and despite having to stop and replace a lost shoe Afewerk Rossom, now fully recovered from a recent heavy cold, ran very strongly in his first regional championships to finish in a fine 13th place out of 69 finishers in a time of 28 minutes 9 seconds for the approx. 8000 metres course. In the previous race for under 17 women, Lottie Rowedder continued her excellent form by finishing in a very good 17th position out of 115 finishers over the approx 5000 metres course in 18 minutes 41 seconds. These two athletes train at the Club's base at Wodson Park, Ware and under 13 girl Maya Delyfer who finished 153rd out of 222 finishers in her race trains at Gosling Park, Welwyn Garden City.
