Start Fitness Metropolitan League
Match 5 - Trent Park - Saturday 10th February 2018
Due to the school half-term holiday there was a much depleted turnout of Herts Phoenix athletes for the final races in the Start Fitness Metropolitan Cross Country League held in Trent Park, Cockfosters last Saturday. The organising club had set out some very tough undulating courses which were made much more difficult following the rain which persisted throughout the meeting making conditions underfoot very demanding on the strength and stamina of the athletes. Georgie Featherstone, having her first race for the Club made a promising start to her athletics career by finishing in sixth place in the under 11 girls' race and was followed by older brother Ted also making his debut who finished in a very good eighth place in the under 13 boys' race. Continuing her excellent run of successes under 15 athlete Freya Stapleton comfortably won the combined Under 15Girls'/Under 17 Women's race and was followed home by Lottie Rowedder in fourth place overall. In the final race of the afternoon the Senior Men had to contend with a course which had been badly churned up by the more than 500 athletes who preceded them in the earlier races. Making light of these conditions John Eves had another excellent run to finish in 9th place out of the 412 finishers, whilst Vincenzo Masullo continued to improve in finishing 37th overall. Afewerk Rossom was fourth in the under 20 age category - 49th overall despite having fallen three times in the slippery conditions and Amaniel Tesfay was 8th under 20 age group finisher and 79th overall.
