March 2018 Cross Country Report

English National Cross Country Championships - 10th March 2018

Just a few Herts Phoenix athletes joined the thousands of runners who competed in the English National Cross Country Championships held at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead last Saturday. In the first race of the meeting Lottie Rowedder continued her excellent series of results this winter in finishing in 41st place out of the 276 under 17 Women who completed the tough, hilly and muddy 5000 metres course run over Hampstead Heath and two of her Wodson Park based training partners, Afewerk Rossom and Amaniel Tesfay also put in strong runs to finish 102nd and 129th with team mate Adam Hughes close behind in 147th place in the Junior Men's race run over 10,000 metres of the, by now, very muddy course. Deborah Rushman finished in 232nd place out of 1113 finishers in the Senior Women's race and was a very commendable 7th W50 finisher and club mate Isabel Found also ran well to finish in 348th place. In the Senior Men's race of nearly 2500 runners Richard Bloom was the first v70 finisher. In the under 13 boys' race George Ward and Sam Bollen were making their debuts in a major championship and gained useful experience in this high quality competition. Joe Smith had a very good race finishing just outside the top 100 of the 356 finishers in the under 17 men's race and was well supported by club mates Alex Hughes 221st and Archie Southwell 344th.
